FIDDLIN' FRED
Saturday, February 14
11:00a - 12:00p
MANC Performance Hall
Free to the public
Fred Lail has been fiddling around for over 30 years. He was given his first violin in high school as pay for playing the electric viola with a rock band. Fred then earned a B.S. degree in music education. He taught, composed for, and conducted public school orchestras for many years.
During the 70’s, his fiddling friends, Mike Cross and Clay Buckner, introduced him to Irish music. Since then, Fred has studied and played with just about any Irish fiddler that you can think of. He also hosts workshops at his North Carolina home featuring some of the very best traditional Irish fiddlers in the world – James Kelly, Tommy Peoples, Brian Conway, and the late Andy McGann, to name just a few.
Fred is currently composing, teaching, and performing with a variety of musicians when he is not managing the Artley Violins shop in Gibsonville, NC - his day job.
