The 9th Annual Constance Kotis Piano Solo Competition at The Music Academy of NC will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017
Elementary Division: Ages 7-10
Pianists will perform two contrasting selections from memory. Performers will be allowed five minutes of performance time and are encouraged to use all of this time.
Junior Division: Ages 11-14
Pianists will perform two contrasting selections from memory. Performers will be allowed eight minutes of performance time and are encouraged to use all of this time.
Senior Division: Ages 15-18
Pianists must prepare three contrasting selections from memory. Performers will play two of their prepared selections in the first round, which will be open to the public. They are allowed ten minutes of performance time and are encouraged to use all of this time. Selected performers will be chosen to perform a third selection (different from the two selections performed in the first round) in a second round, which will be held during the Honors Recital. Eight minutes of performance time will be allocated for the second round of competition.
All music performed must be from memory and must be chosen from the standard, classical repertory. No arrangements, method book pieces, or cuts are allowed. Taking repeats will be at the discretion of the teacher and student.
A clean score of each selection (no photocopies allowed), with numbers measured, must be available to the adjudicator(s). Please make sure no teacher names are visible on the score.
Age is determined by the contestant’s age on the date of the competition.
Awards and Recognitions
All participating students will receive comments from the adjudicator and a Certificate of Participation.
The top five performers from each division will be recognized “With Honors” and will be invited to perform in the Honors Recital in the afternoon.
The top three performers in each division will receive a medal; the top three performers in the Junior Division will also receive a gift card to Sheet Music Plus; the top three performers in the Senior Division will also receive a cash prize of $100 each. These awards will be announced at the conclusion of the Honors Recital.
