| The Music Academy of North Carolina will host a Vocal Masterclass on Friday, February 26 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, led by renowned vocal instructor and Feldenkrais practitioner, Maxine Davis. Singers are invited to perform and receive coaching in the Feldenkrais Method, an educational system that uses movement to build awareness of how we move and respond in the world. An ATM (Awareness Through Movement) lesson will be given following the Masterclass. The event is open to the public at a fee of $10/person for viewing the Masterclass and $10/person for participating in the ATM lesson. Singers may participate in the Masterclass for a fee of $30 for a 20 minute time slot. A staff accompanist is available upon request. Click here to view the masterclass announcement poster. A certified Feldenkrais Practitioner since 1991, Maxine Davis came to the Feldenkrais Method as a professional singer, pianist, and voice teacher. Her diverse group of students encompasses performers of all kinds—people searching for their "voice" in the world, and people living with the effects of stroke, Parkinson's disease, injury, and chronic pain. Davis is the co-author of a four-part series on the Feldenkrais Method for Singers, featured in Classical Singer Magazine (Oct. 08 – Jan. 09 issues). Davis holds a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in Performance from SUNY College at Fredonia, and has given workshops to the general public and to musicians, performers at SUNY at Fredonia, Rutgers, Duke University, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and to the participants of Marlena Malas's Voice program at Chautauqua Institution.
